158/365: Bridge To Darkness

.
Railroad Trestle

Not far south of the Arch, an old train trestle climbs upward from the ground and seems to disappear into blackness. It actually bends right at the top, merging onto a bridge across the river to Illinois. It is still used occasionally.

St. Louis Daily Photo pretends to be steamboating, but the thing really runs on diesel.

157/365: I've Been Asking Myself That Question

.
Quo Vadis

There are few answers to the question at this specific location. Forward, you plunge into the Mississippi. Backward, you crash into the floodwall. Left or right just takes you along the street by the river, if it's not underwater. (Parts of it were the day this was taken.) There is a way out, but you need to know exactly where you are going. Sartre would be confused.

156/365: Guitarist Available

.
Party In The Plaza 22

Just a quicky, uploaded from our lodgings in Hannibal, Missouri, two hours up the Mississippi from St. Louis. There's that certain rock and roll guitarist look and attitude, which is going strong here. From one of The Project for Downtown St. Louis' Parties In The Plaza.

155/365: Believe - What?

.
Believe

From the graffiti-permitted section of the Mississippi floodwall just south of the Arch. I'm not real good on popular culture, but isn't the stenciled face a character from the animated movie
Toy Story? Then there's the question of what we should believe, and why. Animated movies, maybe.

I posted this to balance today's picture on St. Louis Daily Photo.

154/365: What's Wrong With Stan?

.
Statue of Musial

Stan Musial is considered the greatest player in the history of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. There is a monumental statue of him on the west side of Busch Stadium. I think it's very unflattering. The back and shoulders are huge, out of proportion, a Frankenstein look. Well, maybe poetic license is allowed to show his strength. But the face is so misshapen (notice how the jaw is way off center), the expression is so dead and it doesn't look much like him, anyway. The team could have done better.

153/365: Dark Entry

.
Twain and Civil Courts
Stupid photo tricks: the gap at the eastern edge of Richard Serra's Twain with the Civil Courts Building behind, heavily back-lit and Holga-ized in the computer. It's got sort of an edgy German Expressionist feel. I like it, particularly the bare patch of earth where people walk in. But, as the investment ads in this country say, your results may vary.

The same dark attitude runs through St. Louis Daily Photo today.

152/365: Caught In A Vice

.
2011-05-29 Citygarden 2

Have you ever had a day when you felt like this, a vise squeezing your temples, grim and sickly expression staring out at the world? I sure have but I don't know that it was any worse than Pinocchio's position in Tom Otterness' Kindly Geppetto, located in Citygarden.

St. Louis Daily Photo is doing some stretches.
